Your Force powers: the Jedi Mind Trick

February 6th, 2012

Here is another example of a Force power that the Modern Jedi has access to.  While it doesn’t work like it does in the movies the Jedi Mind Trick can still be an effective tool that can be used when needed.

The Jedi Mind Trick used by the Modern Jedi Knight is really no trick at all, it is simply using the ego of another person against them.  Unlike the Modern Jedi, the everyday person spends much of their time trapped in their ego, thinking about the past or the future while neglecting the present and not being mindful of the moment.  You can use this to your advantage if need be.

Imagine you are walking down a street late at night and you see a group of people up ahead walking towards you.  Since you are a mindful Jedi your intuitive sense to the Force is telling you to be cautious.  You have many options of what you can do in this situation, the Jedi Mind Trick is one of them.  You can start to limp or feign some other type of physical manifestation.  You can start talking to yourself to make them think that you are mentally disturbed in some way.  While there are many options as to what you can do, your goal of using the Jedi Mind Trick is to remove any interest in you from the approaching group of people who have you concerned.  By making yourself to appear weak and unchallenging you remove any fun to be gained by them making a sport of you.

Caution must be exercised, however, as by making yourself to appear weak and unchallenging you might also make yourself more of a target.  Proper discretion must be used.  However, even if you do make an errant choice or find yourself in an unavoidable situation you can still use the element of surprise to your advantage should they decide to move in against you.

Remember, the Jedi uses the Force in defense and it is never used to attack in an offensive manner.  Your best defense is to never get into any type of confrontation in the first place.  If you accomplish that you will be the victor.

More Star Wars sightings in Denver

February 4th, 2012

Four leg drive is the only thing better than a Jeep and four wheel drive in the snow.

Must be preparations for the upcoming 3D release of The Phantom Menace.  The snow is still falling, although the intensity has gone down.  One more shoveling of the driveway and I will be finished for this storm.  Then the forecast is calling for 56 in two days.

Its like that

February 3rd, 2012

10 inches on the ground and the snow is still falling.  The news channel says it is going to snow for another 24 hours before this storm system blows itself out.  So when I saw this picture I just couldn’t help but share it with everyone else.

Why we choose to be Jedi

February 1st, 2012

Peter Van Uhm at TEDx Amsterdam

Every now and then you stumble across something and it is explained so clearly, so perfectly, so succinctly that it answers all questions and puts to bed all doubts.  Such was the case of the video of General Petrus J.M. “Peter” van Uhm, a Four-Star General of the Royal Netherlands Army and the current Chief of the Netherlands Defense Staff who gave a short speech at TEDx Amsterdam in 2011.

Watch the video and think about what he says.  Think about how you feel as you watch it.  It sure sounds like General van Uhm is a Jedi to me.

Fanboys

January 31st, 2012

I am almost ashamed to mention this but I just watched the movie Fanboys this weekend for the first time.  I feel like I am not a real Star Wars fan at this time because it took me over two years to see the movie.  You know how things go, though, plans are made and changed.  Nevertheless, I can now talk about the movie.

I don’t want to give away any of the plot in case there is some other Jedi out there who hasn’t seen the movie (however doubtful that might be) but if there is this is a movie that any Star Wars fan will truly enjoy.  Keep up with the questions to determine true Fanboy status and listen for all of the hidden uses of movie sounds throughout the show.  The amount of dialogue from the original trilogy that gets put into the movie is pretty funny as well.

Below is the trailer to further whet the appetite of those who haven’t seen the movie yet (again, probably it was just me) or to refresh your memory from the time you saw it.  Enjoy!

An alternate movie title

January 30th, 2012

This post really doesn’t have anything to do with Jedi or Star Wars or the Force.  There is a movie coming out called Chronicle on February 3rd and it should be called “What happens when you get Force powers without training the mind first.”  It does look interesting, though.

Star Wars: Uncut

January 24th, 2012

This has to be one of the funniest and impressive displays of fan created Star Wars content I have ever laid eyes on.  Star Wars:  Uncut is the culmination of a really interesting idea.  Offer everyone the opportunity to remake A New Hope in any way that they see fit, however they only get a 15 second portion of the movie.  So you see something that looks like Hardware Wars, followed by a pizza shooting at a salt shaker, followed by claymation, followed by chalk animation, followed by . . . . . . . .

As you can see this goes on for quite some time.  I haven’t watched the entire project yet but I thoroughly enjoyed what I did watch.  This will fill up an afternoon of mine some time in the near future and I bet you will enjoy watching it also.

Mindfulness in action

January 23rd, 2012

Meditation doesn’t have to be boring.  Just check out what these people are doing as it requires an intense mindfulness to the moment.  This moving meditation is the next step after becoming proficient in sitting meditation.  For the less adventurous you can simply practice mindfulness while training in your lightsaber technique or other martial arts and physical activities.  You don’t have to put yourself on the edge of death to be mindful but you do have to be mindful to put yourself on the edge.  That is where the Jedi lives.

The Maker has retired

January 20th, 2012

The next maker is over there beyond that dune.

This was news a few days ago, I think I have finally recovered enough from my shock to finally comprehend what is going on.  After 47 years in the movie business, with involvement in 29 feature films and 9 short films,  George Lucas is stepping away from the Panavision PSR movie camera.  He will remain involved with the Star Wars galaxy, however, and will continue to be involved in The Clone Wars and the upcoming live action television show, rumored to be labeled Star Wars:  Underworld.

So what does this mean for the Jedi?  Looks like the quote George made on The Daily Show was correct, Red Tails is as close to Episode VII as we are going to get.  However The Clone Wars is still running at full steam and the fiction continues to come off the presses in numerous books so that should give us plenty of additional training information for the foreseeable future.

This Jedi would like to offer his thanks for providing the opportunity to take my first step into a larger world and the inspiration to develop myself so I could contribute meaningfully to society.  May the Force be with all of us!
